Join Richard Hewitt, PVCC (Piedmont VA Community College) professor, sommelier and author of A Cottage in Portugal (Simon & Schuster) as we tour the ‘new Tuscany’ visiting some of the most unique, historic sites on the planet as well as the Alentejo’s top wineries and restaurants. With miles of vineyards and cork oak trees, historic hilltop cities and deserted beaches-not to mention increasingly varied hotels and restaurants- the Alentejo has something for everyone. Portugal’s largest region, the Alentejo covers a third of the country, stretching north and east of Lisbon toward the southern Algarve coast and east to Spain.
We will visit cities/villages of Lisbon, Evora, Estremoz, Monsaraz and Arraiolos. Wineries to include Bacalhoa, Adega Cartuxa, Cortes de Cima, Herdade de Rocim, Esporao and Dona Maria among others. Monuments: Roman temple of Diana, medieval village of Monsaraz, 500 year old market at Estremoz, carpet making at Arraiolos among others.

This is a trip that includes 4-5 star lodging/hotels (including a palace and a winery!) all meals, wine with meals, wine tasting fees, transportation and guide service! Limited to 14 people! 6 night, 7 day comprehensive tour.
